"Every new year people make resolutions to change aspects of themselves they believe are negative. A majority of people revert back to how they were before and feel like failures. This year I challenge you to a new resolution. I challenge you to just be yourself!" ;) (By: Aisha Elderwyn)

Venue Tips!

Your venue is literally the backdrop of your wedding and/or event and should be selected for its style or openness to create any style.  Not only do you want to think logistically about the location of the venue, but also the size and restraints that come along with it.  Be sure to find out what is included when you book the venue, and if there are select vendors that are required for use.

** WHEN you're on vacation, what type of restaurants do you select?

** WHAT would be the style of your ideal dinner party?

** WHAT is your favorite restaurant, and why?

** ARE you more of a nighttime or daytime person?

** DO you prefer the indoors or outdoors?

Good advice from David! :)

Can't find it? Don't panic!

We’ve all had those days where we’re running late and you think you have everything you need so you may be able to make it on time. BUT THEN, you remember something you forgot, like your keys! You can’t find them and you don’t have time to tear up the whole house looking for them.

Here are some FIND-IT Quick tips from Good Housekeeping.

1) Can’t find something you stashed “somewhere safe”?
It’s probably above eye level and in the dark. Check closets, top of the fridge and a shelf in the basement.

2) Can’t find your keys-again?
Make an extra set or two and keep them in a designated place for those times you must leave the house ASAP.

3) Can’t find earrings or a favorite moisturizer?
Check your suitcase, a sinkhole for lost items because they might not have been unpacked after a trip.

A few months ago a great Polk County pediatrician suffered a stroke and other problems which affected his brain leaving Dr. Miguel Diaz in a coma for six weeks. Dr. Diaz was a dedicated pediatrician who never denied anyone his services regardless if the patient had medical insurance or not. He even helped his patients’ families with the costs of their prescriptions. His mission was to SERVE FIRST!

Dr. Diaz woke up from his coma and he is currently in a rehab facility. This human being shared his love, dedication, passion, and money to all his patients and now his family needs you. The costs for rehab are outrageous and his family is reaching out to this community to help them - the same way he always helped others! A group of Polk County doctors along with the patients of Dr. Diaz have contacted us for help, and we are helping!  Let’s help Dr. Diaz the same way that he helped our Polk County kids for the last 14 years! Tips for Bridesmaid Dresses

o   Make sure you have enough time to select the dresses, get them fitted or tailored and get shipped or picked up. It may take a few months if you’re ordering from a company not in state.

o   Make sure your bridesmaids can move around. Check sleeves and seams to be sure everything fits but is loose enough so they can groove on the dance floor.

o   You may have seen ugly bridesmaid dresses in movies or have even been one of those bridesmaids wearing the ugly dresses. It’s okay to get the opinion of your bridesmaids.

o   Remember that the dresses will be in pictures forever. Make sure they’re flattering on everyone.

o   Bridesmaid dresses should match your wedding colors. Don’t pick something just because it looked pretty in the store.  If it’s not in your theme, put it back on the rack.

If you have a college bound student, they’ll be gone in the fall. Are they apprehensive about leaving home and living on their own?

Throw them a going away to college get together!Make it a day to just hang out with friends and discuss their worries too.

Hand out index cards to write down a piece of helpful advice. Maybe funny things like ‘Never run out of quarters’,   ‘Label your food’, or ‘Wear flip flops in the shower.’  You could have adults write some serious tips on getting along with roommates, how to do laundry, and what to do when you get home sick. (Call Mom! She’d love to hear from you.)

Everyone loves little reminders that you care. Why not make a little care package for your student?  Roll of quarters, homemade cookies, snack foods, coupons, stuff they might miss from home or can’t buy where they are at, a copy of the latest book they like (We used to send the books of the comic strip ‘Zits’ to my brother), or maybe the latest season of their favorite TV show.

Want to take advantage of the summer days?

On the weekend, have a little get together with close friends, have a picnic in the park.

Ask everybody to bring a different picnic snack, fruits, veggies, buns or meat for burgers so you can grill. Don’t forget to bring a cooler. Bring plastic utensils and plates so they can be easily thrown away and you won’t have to worry about cleaning up a huge mess.
(A tip to the wise: Nothing mayonnaise based. It will go bad.)

Then go have some fun, bring a kite to fly, bring a football, take a stroll around the park, or lie in the grass and watch the clouds.

Tips from Good Housekeeping

Summer Reading Book Club
"Want to get family members more interested in their summer reading list? Turn study time into family time by creating your own book club. Just carve out 30 to 40 minutes for reading each evening, then discuss each chapter over a family dinner the next night. Save money by checking out extra copies from your local library, rather than buying books or the whole family."

The Summer Hobby
"A new hobby can keep everyone busy all summer long. Does your family love to preform? Assemble a bag or basket filled with 5 to 10 random items from around the house, then have them write, practice and preform a "homegrown" play using these objects as props."

Picture-Perfect Summer
"Here's a great way to turn a common hobby into something truly unique. First, give younger family members access to a digital camera and encourage them to take pictures outside and around the house for a week. Send their favorite shots to one of the many online companies that turn them into custom jigsaw puzzles! When the puzzles arrive, spend an after-dinner evening working on them together."

This one was my favorite idea.

I think Walgreens does this as well.

Themed Summer Party!

A great theme for a summer party is a Hawaiian Luau!
Think about Hawaii and vacation. What are the first things that come to your mind?
Tiki torches, grass skirts, coconuts and a beautiful sunset.

Bring Hawaii to your backyard. Throw a party in the early evening. Totally informal and casual. Light up the tiki torches and enjoy the breeze. Let your guests have fun with grass skirts and coconut bras while sipping a fruity drink from a coconut.

Don’t forget to greet each of your guests with a lei and an “Aloha!”

Grill some chicken with exotic fruit like pineapple and mango.

Dance and talk the night away! What a simple, easy get together.

Summer, a time for flowers, bees, late nights and slept in mornings.

It’s a great time to throw a wedding or baby shower! The theme is already set! Flowers, bright colors, blues, greens, pinks and yellows! The weather is nice, the sun is bright, outside is the perfect setting!

What are some games you would play at a wedding shower?
What about a baby shower?

Let's Talk Cake!

Cakes are good for all occasions, birthdays, weddings, baby showers, etc.

Something you may be seeing at parties you attend is cake pops! They’re the new things to add a pop of fun to any event!

The best part is you don’t have to be a professional to make them!

Just bake a cake, crumble it, add frosting from a can, roll the mixture into small balls, freeze, then put them on sticks & candy coat them!

Simple enough, right?

Your guests will enjoy just the right amount of sweetness - not to mention how cute they look!
Make fun arrangements with different flavors.

They’ll be a hit at your next party!

If you try them, let me know! Good luck!

Party Tips!

When To Entertain:  Reasons to get together with family & friends are endless- birthdays & holidays are obvious opportunities to throw a party, but there's no need to wait for an occasion.  Invent your own - a relaxed weekend brunch with neighbors, lunch before a football game, or a casual dinner before an evening at the movies.  And entertaining doesn't have to be centered around a complete meal.  Other possibilities include coffees, afternoon teas, cocktail parties, dessert parties - & the list goes on! :)

Choosing The Location:  Almost any place that suggests a particular mood can be a party size.  Create a welcoming setting on a table in a pretty garden...or stir up your desire for adventure by packing a party in laundry hampers and serving up a game-day tailgate brunch.  Invariably, some of the best places to entertain are right at home.  Try placing a table in front of the fireplace...or clear off a corner of the front porch, and dress up a table with festive linens.  Stretch your creativity by decorating your basement with southwest flair for a Tex-Mex fiesta! :)

Formal Vs. Informal: Most formal events are still seated affairs, with the hostess being particularly mindful of etiquette, but busy lifestyles have led to the desire for more casual entertaining.  Informal get-togethers open the door to stand-up cocktail parties, breakfasts, serve-yourself buffets, casual brunches, small lunches, and impromptu dinners!
For more entertaining tips...stay tuned!  :-)

Outdoor Celebration!

Have you been thinking about throwing a birthday party or wedding shower?

In the summer, people think “outdoors” for their events. They may not take the bad weather into consideration.  Rain, too much heat, wind, thunderstorms, etc. especially here in Florida. Mother Nature is so unpredictable.

Here are some tips on planning an event outside….

o   Start out with a checklist of everything you will need. In my experience, the things people forget the most are charcoal and a lighter.
o   Pick an area everyone is familiar with so they can get there and prepare to give easy directions.
o   Make sure there is a place you can go if the weather turns bad, maybe a park with a clubhouse.
o   If you bring your own tables and chairs, make sure they are weather proof or can be easily folded and moved indoors.
o   Make sure to check the weather before you start setting up.
o   Start the grill before your guests arrive. This way you won’t be fighting with the wind while your guests are starving.

I hope these tips were helpful. Let me know! Happy grilling!

On Sunday, July 10, some of our team went to check out a Bridal Show. We left with some great ideas to help you.

One of my top favorite vendors was “The Flipbook People”. It was the most creative idea I have seen. It’s taking photo booths to the next level. They take a short video of you and your friends then turn it into a little flipbook. You can send them home with your guests as party favors or keep one for yourself as a fun reminder.

How do you want your pictures taken?

What do you think is more important for a wedding, the memories or the photographs? Yes, you can relive the memories from looking at pictures a few years down the road, but would you make a smaller budget for a photographer and put a little extra of your budget into the wedding and party favors?

In some of my research, people have been letting their guests take photos with their own cameras or handing out disposable cameras before the reception for guests to capture moments.

Some couples are hiring professional photographers for their engagement photos but not for the actual wedding ceremony and reception.

A new trend popping up is a photo booth. Guests can go in at the reception, get funny photos taken and have little party favors to take home.

What are your thoughts on photo booths? They can be used for many occasions, weddings, birthday parties, school reunions, etc.

How about a videographer?  Would you pay to have a professional capture your ceremony and vows or are you okay with Uncle Larry sitting in the front row, handycam in hand?

Brides!

Are you planning on getting married soon? Have you started picking the venue, flowers, linens and brides maid dresses yet?
If you only had a $18,050 budget what would be the most important items for your weddings? Would you cut costs on one thing to have more for your dress?

Angelique Bridal and Formal by Michelle!

Our vendor of the month! Check it out!
Wonderful selections, excellent service and great prices!
Angelique Bridal and Formal

We plan all kind of events!

Ever thought about having a wedding shower for men? The alternative to a bachelor party! If you’re planning a wedding shower for a man, it’s a good idea to send out an invitation between 4-6 weeks before the big day.

Sports Shower
Invite the guys over to watch a game, and have each guest bring a sports-oriented gift. If the groom-to-be is an enthusiast for a particular sport, such as golf, hockey, or football, have each guest bring a gift that relates to that sport.

BBQ Madness
What guy doesn’t love to sear a steak over the open flame? Help him stock his domain by hosting a barbecue themed shower, where guests can bring gifts that range from heavy duty utensils to special seasonings. Have a hot-sauce tasting contest and serve up lots of hot wings and burgers.

Drink Up!
If the future groom loves to have a drink, throw a “Stock the Bar” shower where each guest is encourage to bring a bottle or a bar accessory. Of course, some sampling will have to occur!

Musical Shower
If the groom to be is a musician, then having a shower based on tunes is only natural! Get the guys together for a jam session, and then present the groom with a musical gift. Why not have all the guys throw in so you can splurge on something really amazing, like a new amp?

Pick an Activity – Any Activity!
Usually, guys tend to socialize around a particular activity, so plan an event to make your wedding shower a memorable day. Pack up the jeep and head to the beach for the day, go golfing, or spend an afternoon fishing.

Movie Enthusiast
Have the boys over for a movie marathon or some movie trivia game. Pop some popcorn in an old fashion maker. Set up a bar with various candy bars and sweets, pizza, soda and beer.

If you’re not comfortable planning a shower, but want the boys to be in on the action, consider having a couple’s shower. This is a great way to get everyone together and shower the new couples with gifts for their new life together!
