If you have a college bound student, they’ll be gone in the fall. Are they apprehensive about leaving home and living on their own?
Throw them a going away to college get together!Make it a day to just hang out with friends and discuss their worries too.
Hand out index cards to write down a piece of helpful advice. Maybe funny things like ‘Never run out of quarters’, ‘Label your food’, or ‘Wear flip flops in the shower.’ You could have adults write some serious tips on getting along with roommates, how to do laundry, and what to do when you get home sick. (Call Mom! She’d love to hear from you.)
Everyone loves little reminders that you care. Why not make a little care package for your student? Roll of quarters, homemade cookies, snack foods, coupons, stuff they might miss from home or can’t buy where they are at, a copy of the latest book they like (We used to send the books of the comic strip ‘Zits’ to my brother), or maybe the latest season of their favorite TV show.

Want to take advantage of the summer days?
On the weekend, have a little get together with close friends, have a picnic in the park.
Ask everybody to bring a different picnic snack, fruits, veggies, buns or meat for burgers so you can grill. Don’t forget to bring a cooler. Bring plastic utensils and plates so they can be easily thrown away and you won’t have to worry about cleaning up a huge mess.
(A tip to the wise: Nothing mayonnaise based. It will go bad.)
Then go have some fun, bring a kite to fly, bring a football, take a stroll around the park, or lie in the grass and watch the clouds.

Tips from Good Housekeeping
Summer Reading Book Club
"Want to get family members more interested in their summer reading list? Turn study time into family time by creating your own book club. Just carve out 30 to 40 minutes for reading each evening, then discuss each chapter over a family dinner the next night. Save money by checking out extra copies from your local library, rather than buying books or the whole family."
The Summer Hobby
"A new hobby can keep everyone busy all summer long. Does your family love to preform? Assemble a bag or basket filled with 5 to 10 random items from around the house, then have them write, practice and preform a "homegrown" play using these objects as props."
Picture-Perfect Summer
"Here's a great way to turn a common hobby into something truly unique. First, give younger family members access to a digital camera and encourage them to take pictures outside and around the house for a week. Send their favorite shots to one of the many online companies that turn them into custom jigsaw puzzles! When the puzzles arrive, spend an after-dinner evening working on them together."
This one was my favorite idea.

I think Walgreens does this as well.

Themed Summer Party!
A great theme for a summer party is a Hawaiian Luau!
Think about Hawaii and vacation. What are the first things that come to your mind?
Tiki torches, grass skirts, coconuts and a beautiful sunset.
Bring Hawaii to your backyard. Throw a party in the early evening. Totally informal and casual. Light up the tiki torches and enjoy the breeze. Let your guests have fun with grass skirts and coconut bras while sipping a fruity drink from a coconut.
Don’t forget to greet each of your guests with a lei and an “Aloha!”
Grill some chicken with exotic fruit like pineapple and mango.
Dance and talk the night away! What a simple, easy get together.
